Dive Platform - Rhodes

Might As Well Jump!

Thoughts From the Coffee Table: It seems so easy from far away.

I watched people climb the dive platform in Rhodes for days. I wanted to do it. I thought I could do it. I was scared to do it.

Jutting out of the water like some monolith of ancient times, it beckons you with its Siren song. Odysseus wouldn’t have stood a chance.

3 platforms to jump (or dive) off, roughly at 1, 3 and 6 meters. So, of course, I had to go for the top.

As I made the swim out there I watched a girl climb to the top, wander around for a moment, and then make her way back down. She screamed as she jumped off the 1 meter level. I silently mocked her.

Out of the water now, and with about 30 steps to climb, I began to reassess the situation (and the girl). What was I doing? OSHA clearly had not approved this structure.

The view from the top was….terrifying. I knew my hubby would understand if I backed out (although I would have to destroy the video footage). I knew others on the top might even turn around with me.

Then I thought: I climbed up here. I know I CAN do it. It won’t be pretty, and it might hurt. And it is DEFINITELY scary.

But why else did I come all this way?

And if I don’t do this, what else might I choose not to do? The choice is mine.

So just jump!
