Thoughts From the Coffee Table: Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs…
I heard a story about a Disney employee in front of Cinderella’s Castle. So many people asked her for directions to the restrooms each day that she decided to count them one day.
She realized that, although she had to answer the question multiple times, for each person, it was the first time they were asking and hearing. She needed to make sure her answers gave a great experience.
I wondered why they don’t have better signage near the castle.
I am in Phoenix to speak at the International Spa Association meeting, #ISPA2018. All checked in, I headed to register and get my credentials. My notes said go to the 3rd floor. I went to the 3rd floor. Nothing.
Confused, I walked outside to get some fresh 101 degree air. Outside my hotel, on the ground, was this sign for the conference. I followed them all the way to the convention center. Where, of course, on the 3rd floor, I found registration.
I hadn’t read ALL of my notes. I had all the information I needed. I had simply not read it thoroughly.
So far everything about this conference is exceptional. Much like Disney.
So I wonder. Maybe there are signs near the castle.
That people just don’t read.
