Thoughts From the Coffee Table: “Hey there awesome runner! Have a great run!”
Simple words, part of a computer program. It could feel cold or sterile, but instead they fill me with confidence. A sense of belonging. Inspiration. Positivity. Motivation.
I recently spoke to a woman who couldn’t stop gushing about how much she enjoyed her job. She had worked for the company for 6 years and loved it as much as she did day 1. I asked her what made it so great.
“We hire people with great attitudes, train them well and give them ways to be heard throughout the company. If you aren’t happy here, you won’t be happy anywhere. And for me personally, I only want to be surrounded by positive and motivated people, especially on tough days.”
I agree with her wholeheartedly. Which makes working from home all the more challenging. And probably why I talk to myself. Out loud. To hear and be heard. To keep myself motivated.
And I often call myself “Sherlock” in an exasperated voice.
I didn’t want to run today. I was tired. It was raining. I wasn’t sure I could do it.
But the moment I heard my first encouraging words, I was all in. I wasn’t alone. I could do it!
It might be an app. But I also picked the right voice to play in my head.
Until it calls me Sherlock…
