Thoughts From the Coffee Table: See the pic in the top left corner? That is exactly what my lunch looked like.
I ate half, brought the rest home and stretched it for 2 more meals.I am not sure why I stopped last week in Springfield. It caught my eye driving by so I made a U-turn and pulled in. What a great decision!
The food was crazy good. But the fun touches like this dictionary/menu made me smile. And it reminded me how we create languages and acronyms in our businesses that we expect people to understand. And we rarely stop to see whether or not people are lost in translation.
I then thought about how we represent our companies (and therefore ourselves) to others. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve overheard people complaining loudly about their jobs, employer and colleagues, I would be a very rich woman.
At Nick’s, I found something greater. I saw a staff with smiles who genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs.
When I asked the bartender about the gravy fries, he got a glazed over look of pleasure and told me “I limit myself to only one order a day. I could eat here every meal every day for the rest of my life. It’s that good.”
That sealed the deal on the gravy fries. And on my decision to go back.
