Thoughts From the Coffee Table: This weekend we fed our inner child. I am blessed to live in a city where there are so many wonderful things to do, and many ways to celebrate all cultures and holidays.
One December evening in my first year in Philly, there arose such a clatter. I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter!
As a child, Santa did a tour on his “sleigh.” He drove through neighborhoods, a speaker booming his “Ho! Ho! Ho!” and giving candy canes. I was certain that night in Philly it was Santa come again!
Nope. It was a Hanukkah parade! A line of over 50 cars, each with a giant menorah on top, lit for the first night of Hanukkah. At every corner men would jump out and dance. It was awesome!
We celebrate here in many ways, but at Christmas there are two things you should never miss. The Macy’s Wanamaker Organ Christmas Light Show, and the Comcast Holiday Spectacular. The walls become a movie screen, surrounding you with music, dance and even snow!
The lobby is filled with children (and adults feeling like children) staring with open mouths and giant smiles, no matter how many times you have seen the show.
And as you walk back out into the cold air and the bustle of the season, you carry a little magic with you as well.
