Thoughts From the Coffee Table: In a vegan, gluten free, carb-free world, I know this picture paints me as a monster. Don’t hate me because I’m a carnivore.
Fette Sau (meaning fat pig) is an unassuming place in Philly with food that makes me want to cry. Last winter I had the flu (yes, the real flu) and walking pneumonia. For 6 weeks I ate only ice cream and toast while moving from couch to bed. 10 lbs. lost and 2 rounds of antibiotics later I was ready for real food. This is where I wanted to go!
The food here is out of this world, the beer selection is fantastic and the whiskey selection makes me proud. But there is something even greater.
If you watch the team move through the room, every person watches every table. An empty tray is gone before you blink. An empty glass is noted for a refill. The manager works the room like a cocktail party.
Service here is as important as the food. They care about your experience.
My husband was the one to note that I haven’t written yet about Fette Sau and asked me why. I think I come here for my own selfish cravings. I am so fixed on my experience that I forgot to share. So here you go!
Just don’t ask me to share the beans.
Or the rolls.
And definitely NOT the brisket!
